Richard Carlile (8 Desember 1790 – 10 Februari 1843) adalah tokoh yang mendukung hak pilih universal dan kebebasan pers di Britania Raya.[1]
Kehidupan awal
Carlile lahir di Ashburton, Devon dan merupakan putra dari seorang pembuat sepatu. Ia meninggalkan keluarganya pada tahun 1794. Pada usia enam tahun, ia memperoleh pendidikan gratis di sekolah Gereja Inggris lokal dan kemudian pada usia dua belas tahun ia meninggalkan sekolah untuk mengikuti pelatihan selama tujuh tahun di Plymouth. Pada tahun 1813, ia menikahi Jane dan tinggal di Holborn Hill di London. Mereka dikaruniai lima anak, dan hanya tiga yang bertahan hidup.
