Rodokrosit adalah sebuah mineral karbonat mangan dengan komposisi kimiawi MnCO3. Pada bentuk murninya yang jarang dijumpai, mineral biasanya berwarna merah mawar,[5] namun juga dapat ditemukan dengan warna cokelat pucat. Goresannya putih,[6] memiliki kekerasan yang bervariasi antara 3.5 dan 4.5 pada skala Mohs, dan memiliki massa jenis relatif di antara 3.45 dan 3.6.[7] Sistem kristal rodokrosit adalah trigonal, dengan struktur kisi dan belahan pada sistem rombohedral karbonatnya. Ion karbonatnya (CO2−3) tersusun pada konfiguari planar triangular, dan ion-ion mangannya (Mn2–) dikelilingi oleh enam ion oksigen pada susunan oktahedral. Oktahedron MnO6 dan segitiga-segitiga CO3 pada mineral ini terhubung bersama untuk membentuk sebuah struktur tiga dimensi.

Pengembaran kristal biasanya ditemukan di mineral ini. Rodokrosit dapat dikira rodonit, tetapi rodonit lebih halus/lunak daripada mineral ini.[8] Rodokrosit terbentuk dari bijih mangan yang teroksidasi, dan dapat ditemukan di Afrika Selatan, Tiongkok dan benua Amerika.[6] Rodokrosit menjadi salah satu dari banyak simbol nasional Argentina.
