Roger (kanguru)

Roger (ca 2006–ca 2018) adalah seekor kanguru merah dari Australia yang terkenal karena tubuhnya yang berotot.[1]

Kehidupan

Roger diselamatkan saat masih kecil oleh Chris Barns setelah ibu Roger terbunuh ditabrak mobil.[2] Barns mulai membuat Kangaroo Sanctuary[3] seluas 188 ekar (76 ha) di Alice Springs untuk menampung dan melindungi Roger beserta kanguru lainnya, termasuk pasangan Roger. Barns menyatakan setelah pengumuman kematian Roger bahwa "Roger adalah pemimpin Kangaroo Sanctuary selama bertahun-tahun".[4] Roger tumbuh menjadi 6 kaki 7 inci (2 m) dan sekitar 200 pon (91 kg).[5] Dalam berbagai video, Roger sering kali terlihat mengejar Barns, seperti semua lelaki, Roger melihat Barns sebagai ancaman bagi kerajaan haremnya.[6]

Barns mengumumkan kematian Roger pada 8 Desember 2018 pada usia 12 tahun. Roger diberi julukan "Ripped Roger" dan "Jacked Kangaroo".[10] Setelah mendengar kematian Roger, penyanyi Australia Natalie Imbruglia mengatakan, "Dia selalu tersenyum. Bocah lelaki kuat yang sombong ",[11] dan Tourism Australia menyebutnya" ikon sejati ".[12][13] Penyebab kematiannya dilaporkan karena "faktor usia tua".[14]
