SN 2011fe

Supernova terlihat tanggal 25 Agustus 2011

SN 2011fe, yang semula bernama PTF 11kly, adalah supernova tipe Ia yang ditemukan oleh Palomar Transient Factory (PTF) dalam survei tanggal 24 Agustus 2011. Penemuan ini merupakan hasil dari pantauan otomatis terhadap Galaksi Kincir Angin pada tanggal 22 dan 23 Agustus 2011. Supernova ini berada dalam Messier 101, Galaksi Kincir Angin, 21 tahun cahaya dari Bumi.[1]

Supernova ini diobservasi dalam survei PTF di awal terjadinya supernova itu, ketika itu cahayanya 1 juta kali lebih samar untuk bisa dilihat oleh mata telanjang. Ia merupakan tipe supernova terbaru yang pernah ditemukan.[2]

Sekitar tanggal 13 September 2011, ia mencapai maksimal terang dengan magnitude +9.9,[3] yang setara dengan absolut magnitude -19, setara dengan 2,5 juta Matahari. Di magnitude +10 tanggal 5 September, SN 2011fe ini terlihat dalam teleskop. Dan pada tanggal 30 September, supernova itu berada di magnitude +11 terlihat di malam hari saat matahari baru saja tenggelam dan posisinya berada di horison barat daya. Ia kemudian menghilang di magnitude +13.7 pada 26 November 2011.[4]
