Buku paperback dengan sampul hijau

Paperback (sering disebut juga dengan softcover) adalah buku yang sampul-nya mudah dilengkungkan. Novel-novel dan buku-buku teks/referensi untuk pelajar dan mahasiswa umumnya dicetak dalam edisi paperback.

Istilah paperback biasanya dikontraskan dengan hardcover, yaitu buku dengan cover yang lebih ‘tebal dan keras’ sehingga tidak bisa dilengkungkan (atau kalau dipaksa juga, bakal rusak). Kitab-kitab suci (juga sebagian buku/novel edisi khusus) sering dicetak dalam edisi hardcover.

Karena biaya produksi per unit yang berbeda, untuk buku yang sama harga edisi hardcover biasanya jauh lebih mahal daripada edisi paperback-nya.
