Sicariidae adalah sebuah famili laba-laba berbisa yang diketahui dari gigitannya yang memiliki kemungkinan untuk menyebabkan nekrosis. Famili ini terdiri dari sekitar 160 spesies yang terbagi dalam 3 genera. Laba-laba yang terkenal dari famili ini mencakup laba-laba pertapa cokelat dan laba-laba pasir mata-enam.
Loxosceles, biasanya dikenal sebagai "laba-laba pertapa" atau "laba-laba biola", dapat ditemukan di seluruh dunia di daerah-daerah yang lebih hangat. Hexophthalma dan Sicarius, yang lebih umum dikenal dengan nama "laba-laba pasir" atau "laba-laba pembunuh", tinggal di gurun di Afrika Selatan dan Amerika Tengah sampai Selatan.[1] Mereka dikenal dengan perilaku mengubur dirinya dan kemampunnya untuk hidup dalam waktu yang lama tanpa air atau makanan.[2]
