Sirkuit Papez adalah suatu jalur utama pada sistem limbik di otak besar dan berperan pada korteks otak besar untuk mengontrol emosi. Sirkuit ini pertama kali dipaparkan oleh James Papez pada 1937. Papez menemukannya pertama kali setelah menyuntik virus rabies ke hipokampus seekor kucing dan memantau perkembangan pada otaknya. Jalurnya dapat dipaparkan sebagai berikut:
- Hipokampus → fornix → corpus mamillare
- Corpus mamillare → traktus mamillothalamicus → nucleus thalamicus anterior
- Nucleus thalamicus anterior → genu dari capsula interna → gyrus cinguli
- Gyrus cinguli → cingulum → gyrus parahippocampalis
- Gyrus hippocampalis → korteks entorhinalis → jalur perforantes → hipokampus
Setelah penemuan ini, berkembang penemuan lainnya pada neuroanatomi seperti korteks prefrontalis dan amygdala, serta septum pellucidum.
