Stromness (lokal /ˈstrʌmnɪs/, Old Norse: Straumnes; Norn: Stromnes) adalah kota terpadat kedua di Orkney, Skotlandia. Terletak di bagian barat daya Mainland, Orkney. Kota ini merupakan sebuah burgh dengan paroki di sekitarnya, dengan kota Stromness sebagai ibu kotanya.

Etimologi

Nama "Stromness" berasal dari bahasa Norse Kuno, Straumnes.[1] Straumr merujuk pada arus pasang yang kuat yang menerjang Point of Ness melalui Hoy Sound di selatan kota. Nes berarti "tanjung". Dengan demikian, Stromness berarti "tanjung yang menjorok ke arus pasang".[3][4] Pada zaman Viking, tempat berlabuh di lokasi Stromness sekarang disebut Hamnavoe.[5]
