Summer of Love adalah fenomena sosial yang terjadi selama pertengahan 1967, ketika sebanyak 100.000 orang, sebagian besar anak muda berolahraga, berpakaian, serta berperilaku layaknya seorang hippie mulai berkumpul di San Francisco dalam lingkungan Haight-Ashbury.[1][2] Hal ini secara luas mencakup, Summer of Love dalam bentuk musik hippie, narkoba, anti perang, dan adegan cinta bebas di sepanjang pantai barat Amerika, dan sejauh kota New York..[3][4]
Hippie, kadang-kadang disebut generasi bunga, yaitu kelompok eklektik. Banyak dari mereka ialah sosok curiga terhadap pemerintah, menolak nilai-nilai konsumeris, dan terang-terangan menentang Perang Vietnam. Beberapa tertarik pada politik; yang lain lebih mementingkan seni (musik, lukisan, khususnya puisi) atau praktik spiritual dan meditasi.[4]
