TYPO3 adalah sebuah perangkat lunak bebas dan open source untuk content management system, ditulis dalam bahasa pemrograman PHP. Mulanya ditulis oleh Kasper Skårhøj, TYPO3 sekarang dikembangkan oleh dua tim yang dikepalai oleh Michael Stucki dan Robert Lemke. TYPO3 mempermudah penambahan dan pengelolaan modul situs web.
Ada dua mode operasi: frontend, yaitu situs web yang dilihat pengguna, dan backend, yang digunakan oleh administrator untuk mengelola situs. Backend dijalankan dengan web browser. Design TYPO3 didasarkan pada templates. Templates ini dapat ditambahkan dan diubah oleh pengelola situs. Selain itu, template baru juga dapat diciptakan dengan bahasa pemrograman TypoScript.
Content disimpan dalam dua tabel: pages dan tt_content. Setiap objek memiliki identification key yang unik.
