Pada 2 Juli 1990, sebuah peristiwa terjadi saat Haji di mana 1,426 orang tewas akibat terinjak-injak dan gangguan pernapasan dalam sebuah terowongan di dekat Mekkah.[1] Peristiwa tersebut merupakan tragedi Haji dengan korban tewas tertinggi pada zaman modern.[2]
