Trichostrongylus adalah sebuah genus nematoda yang lumrah ditemukan pada herbivor di seluruh dunia, termasuk sapi, domba, keledai, rusa, kambing, dan kelinci.[1][2][3] Setidaknya 10 spesies dalam genus ini telah dikaitkan dengan infeksi pada manusia.[1] Infesi terjadi melalui tertelannya larva infektif dari air atau sayuran yang terkontaminasi.[1][3] Studi-studi epidemiologi mengindikasikan persebaran global infeksi Trichostrongylus pada manusia, dengan tingkat kehadiran tertinggi yang teramati pada individu-individu dari wilayah-wilayah dengan kondisi kebersihan buruk, pada daerah pedesaan, atau individu yang merupakan seorang peternak atau pengembala.[4][5] Infeksi pada manusia paling sering terjadi di Asia dan Timur Tengah,[3] dengan perkiraan kehadiran infeksi global sebanyak 5.5 juta jiwa.[1]
