Wael Ghonim (bahasa Arab: وائل غنيم IPA: [ˈwæːʔel ɣoˈneːm]; transliterasi lainnya meliputi: Ghoneim, Ghonaim, lahir 23 Desember 1980) adalah seorang aktivis internet dan teknisi komputer dengan minat dalam wirausaha sosial.[1]
Pada 2011, ia menjadi figur internasional dan menggerakkan demonstrasi pro-demokrasi di Mesir setelah wawancara emosionalnya.[2] setelah 11 hari diam-diam dibekuk polisi Mesir—di mana ia diinterogasi terkait kerjanya sebagai salah satu dari dua pengurus laman Facebook, "We are all Khaled Saeed", yang membantu menyebarkan revolusi.[3][4] Majalah Time memasukkannya dalam daftar "Time 100" dari 100 tokoh paling berpengaruh pada 2011,[5] dan Forum Ekonomi Dunia memilihnya sebagai salah satu Young Global Leaders pada 2012.[6]
Wael adalah pengarang "Revolution 2.0: The power of people is greater than the people in power". Pada 2012, ia membentuk Tahrir Academy, sebuah organisasi non-pemerintahan yang berfokus pada teknologi yang bertujuan untuk memajukan pendidikan di Mesir.[7] Ia sekarang menjadi salah satu pendiri di Parlio.
Kehidupan pribadi
Ghonim menikah dengan Ilka Johannson,[8][9] seorang Amerika, dan memiliki dua anak, Isra dan Adam.[10]
