Xystodesmidae adalah sebuah famili kaki seribu dalam subordo Leptodesmidea dalam ordo Polydesmida.[1] Famili ini dicetus oleh seorang biolog Amerika, Orator F. Cook pada 1895 dan dinamai setelah genus Xystodesmus.[2][3] Famili ini mencakup lebih dari 390 spesies yang diketahui dalam 62 genera.[1] Namun, banyak spesies masih belum dideskripsikan. Contohnya, telah diperkirakan bahwa genus Nannaria mencakup lebih dari 200 spesies, namun hanya 25 yang dideskripsikan per tahun 2006.[4] Pada 2022, 78 spesies dalam Nannaria telah dideskripsikan.[5]
