Youku Inc., awalnya Youku.com Inc.,[2][6] yang disebut secara bisnis sebagai Youku (Hanzi sederhana: 优酷; Hanzi tradisional: 優酷; Pinyin: yōukù; harfiah: 'sempurna (dan) cakep'),[7] adalah sebuah layanan berbagi video yang berbasis di China.

Youku memiliki markas besarnya di lantai lima Plaza Sinosteel (S: 中钢国际广场, T: 中鋼國際廣場, P: Zhōnggāng Guójì Guǎngchǎng) di distrik Haidian, Beijing.[8][9]

Pada 12 Maret 2012, Youku meraih sebuah kesepakatan untuk mengakuisisi Tudou dalam sebuah transaksi stock-for-stock, entitas baru tersebut dinamai Youku Tudou Inc.[10] Situs tersebut memiliki lebih dari 500 juta pengguna aktif.[11]

Sejarah

Youku didirikan oleh Victor Koo (T: 古永鏘 Koo YungCiang),[12][13] mantan Presiden portal Internet Tiongkokl Sohu. Awalnya mendapatkan dana untuk situs tersebut dari 1Verge, sebuah yayasan yang dibesarkan oleh Koo. Versi beta dari situs tersebut diluncurkan dengan persebaran geografi terbatas terbatas pada Juni 2006, dan situs web tersebut secara resmi diluncurkan pada Desember 2006. Pada 2007, perusahaan tersebut meraih $25 juta dari sumbangan kalangan kapitalis.[14]

Penggabungan

Pada 12 Maret 2012, dua perusahaan video online terbesar di China, Youku dan Tudou, mengumumkan rencana untuk penggabungan.[15] Pada waktu pengumuman tersebut, Youku memiliki 21.8 persen pembagian pasar dan dan Tudou memiliki 13.7 persen. Nama dari perusahaan baru tersebut dinamai Youku Tudou Inc.[16]
