Zzxjoanw (Dibaca: /ˈʃɔː/,) adalah sebuah lema fiktif terkenal dalam sebuah ensiklopedia yang mengecoh para logologis selama bertahun-tahun. Entri tersebut dikatakan sebagai kata bahasa Maori yang artinya "drum", "fife", atau "kesimpulan".

Cikal bakal

Pada 1903, penulis Rupert Hughes menerbitkan The Musical Guide, sebuah ensiklopedia musik klasik. "Panduan" tersebut berisi "kamus pengucapan dan pengartian dari istilah, alat musik, dll". Berisi 252 halaman, "kamus" tersebut menjelaskan arti dan pengucapan dari kata-kata Jerman, Italia dan non-Inggris lainnya yang ditemukan dalam terminologi musik klasik. Pada akhir kamus tersebut, usai entri untuk "zymbel" (Jerman untuk simbal), Hughes menambahkan definisi berikut ini:[1]

zzxjoanw (shaw). Maori. 1. Drum. 2. Fife. 3. Conclusion.

Entri tersebut ditarik usai buku tersebut diterbitkan ulang dengan judul berbeda pada 1912 dan 1939.[2][3]
