The United States will be looking to extend its winning streak both in the gold medal count and overall medal count to the fourth and eight consecutive Olympic Games, respectively. The USOPC debuted an all-new brand platform, One for All, showcasing the many powerful stories of the athletes who make up the collective Team USA.[2]
Data technology firm Gracenote, which specializes in Olympic medal projections, traditionally published its first estimates a year before the Games' commencement, in July 2023. In this release, based on the analysis of recent performances, the United States was predicted to win 43 gold, 43 silver, and 42 bronze medals at Paris for a total of 128 ahead of hosts France (32–20–11) and China (26–20–22).[3] In January 2024, the projection was adjusted to 37 gold and 129 total medals (China: 35–85, France 26–53).[4] In May 2024, it was again slightly adjusted to 39 gold, 125 overall (China: 33–90, France 29–55).[5][6]
The United States fielded a full-squad of eight artistic swimmers to compete in the open team and women's duet events by topping the list of five highest-ranked nations at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar.[1]
The full team was announced on June 8, 2024, and includes three-time Olympian Anita Alvarez among the roster of Olympic debutants.[11]
U.S. track and field athletes have achieved the entry standards for Paris 2024 either by passing the direct qualifying mark (or time for track and road races) or by virtue of their world ranking in the events listed in the table (a maximum of 3 athletes each).[12] USA Track & Field kicked off their qualification period with the Olympic Marathon Trials in Orlando, Florida in February. Three women and two men punched their tickets to Paris with the third men's spot still up for grabs.[1] On February 21, 2024, USATF announced staff rosters for the Olympics: Stanley Redwine will serve as the men's head coach and LaTanya Sheffield will be the women's head coach.[13]
To assure their selection to the team, athletes competed in the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials on June 21–30, 2024, in Eugene, Oregon.[14] On July 9, 2024, USA Track and Field officially announced a roster of total 120 athletics (59 mens and 61 womens) for the U.S. Olympic Team.[15]
16-year-old Quincy Wilson was selected for the 4x400-meter relay team, and will become the youngest male U.S. track athlete in history.[16]

The U.S. men's basketball team qualified for the Olympics by virtue of being one of the two highest-ranked teams from the Americas, securing its berth at the 2023 FIBA World Cup in Indonesia-Japan-Philippines.[19][1]
Team roster
On January 24, 2024, USA Basketball announced a 41-athlete player pool for the 2024 Olympic team. The team is led by head coach Steve Kerr and assisted by Mark Few, Tyronn Lue, and Erik Spoelstra.[20] The final roster was named on April 17, 2024.[21] This will be the fourth Olympic tournament for three-time champion Kevin Durant, two-time champion and the NBA's all-time scoring leader LeBron James, while Stephen Curry will make his Olympic debut.[22] On July 10, 2024, Kawhi Leonard withdrew from the team and was replaced by Derrick White.[23][24]

On February 14, 2024, USA Basketball announced that head coach Cheryl Reeve will be assisted by Mike Thibault, Kara Lawson, and Joni Taylor.[27]Diana Taurasi will become the first basketball player in history to compete in a sixth Olympic Games.[28]

The U.S. men's 3x3 team qualified for the Olympics as one of the three highest-ranked teams in the world.[30][1] On February 8, 2024, USA Basketball announced that Joe Lewandowski will coach the 2024 team in Paris. Additionally, James Fraschilla will serve as assistant coach for the men's squad.[31][32]
Evy Leibfarth became the first American woman to qualify for three paddling events in the Olympics after earning her spot in both kayak slalom and kayak cross.[45]Casey Eichfeld earned his Paris spot after having won the men's slalom at the Olympic Trials.[46]
U.S. canoeists qualified one boat in each of the following distances via the 2023 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Duisburg, Germany,[47][48] and the 2024 Pan American Canoe Sprint Olympic Qualifiers in Sarasota.[49] On March 22, 2024, 2020 Olympic gold medalist Nevin Harrison became the first American to qualify for the Paris Games in any canoe or kayak event.[50]
The United States has qualified a team of five road cyclists via the UCI Nation Ranking and 2023 World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, Great Britain.[51]
U.S. mountain bikers secured two men's and women's quota places in the Olympic cross-country race by topping the field of nations vying for qualification at the 2023 Pan American Championships in Congonhas, Brazil, and based on the points acquired throughout the biennial UCI Olympic Qualification Ranking.
U.S. riders received five quota places (two men's and three women's) in the BMX race for Paris 2024 by topping the field of nations vying for qualification at the 2023 Pan American Championships in Riobamba, Ecuador, and the 2024 UCI BMX World Championships, as well as through the allocations of the final Olympic BMX ranking.[55][56]
U.S. divers have secured two quota places each in the men's synchronized springboard and women's synchronized platform for Paris 2024 by attaining a top-three finish from the list of nations eligible for qualification at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.[57][58] Team USA also secured two quota places via the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar.
The eventing team was announced on June 3, 2024.[64] The dressage team was announced on June 25, 2024[65] and jumping team was announced on July 6, 2024.[66]
U.S. fencers have qualified a full squad each in the men's and women's team foil and women's team épée for the Games at the World Cup.[67][68][69] On February 29, 2024, 2020 Olympic gold medalist Lee Kiefer, three-time medalist Alexander Massialas and 2020 bronze medalist Nick Itkin became the first fencers to qualify for the Paris Olympics.[70] On March 4, 2024, the women's saber and men's saber squads qualified for the Olympics via the World Cup, Zonal Championships and World Championships.[71] On March 5, 2024, a 18-year-old fencer Colin Heathcock won the gold medal at the Tunis Grand Prix and Padua World Cup, punching his ticket to his first Olympic Games.[72]Eli Dershwitz also qualified in both the individual and team events for the men's saber.[73] On March 20, 2024, Gerek Meinhardt clinched his spot in both the individual and team events for the men's foil, being headed to his fifth Games.[74]Elizabeth Tartakovsky, Tatiana Nazlymov, Magda Skarbonkiewicz, Lauren Scruggs, and Jackie Dubrovich also qualified in both the individual and team events for the women's saber and foil.[75][76][77] On March 28, 2024, Anne Cebula, Hadley Husisian, and Margherita Guzzi Vincenti qualified in the women's épée and Mitchell Saron in the men's saber for both the individual and team events.[78][79]
The full roster of 20 fencers was announced on May 1, 2024, with women outnumbering men.[80]

The United States qualified seven golfers into the Olympic tournament. All of them secured their spots for the games in the individual competitions based on their performance in the IGF World Rankings.[89][90]
The United States has entered a full squad in artistic gymnastics.[1] Five female gymnasts qualified for Paris after achieving a gold-medal victory in the team all-around at the 2022 World Championships in Liverpool, England.[91][92][93] Meanwhile, five male gymnasts qualified for Paris by virtue of a top-nine finish in the team all-around at the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp, Belgium.
The men's team was named on June 29, 2024. The top all-around finisher who recorded top three scores on at least three apparatuses, Fred Richard, was automatically named to the Olympic team. Brody Malone, Paul Juda, and Asher Hong, the second, fourth, and fifth place finishers, were named to the team by the selection committee. Stephen Nedoroscik, a pommel horse specialist, was the fifth person named to the team.[95][96]Shane Wiskus, a 2020 Olympian, and Khoi Young were named as traveling alternates for the men's team.[97][98]
The women's team was named on June 30, 2024. The top all-around finisher, Olympic and world champion Simone Biles, was named to her third Olympic team as the winner of the Trials in the all-around.[99]Sunisa Lee, Jordan Chiles, and Jade Carey who finished second, third, and fourth place, were named to their second Olympic team by the selection committee. 16-year-old Hezly Rivera was the fifth person named to the team by the selection committee after placing fifth in the all-around; she became the youngest athlete on the entire 2024 U.S. Olympic delegation.[100][101][102]Joscelyn Roberson and Leanne Wong were named as traveling alternates for the women's team.[103]
The United States has qualified two gymnasts, one for the women's trampoline competition by finishing in the top eight at the 2023 World Championships in Birmingham, England, and one for the men's competition via the final ranking of the 2023–24 World Cup Series.[104] Trampoline athletes were named at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials.[105]
America modern pentathletes have qualified a single quota place for Paris 2024. Jessica Davis secured one of two available spots for North, Central and Caribbean Americas in the women's event at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.[108][1]

U.S. rowers have qualified boats in each of the following classes through the 2023 World Rowing Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, and the 2024 Final Qualification Regatta in Lucerne, Switzerland. Five rowers earned their spots at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials on April 4–7, 2024, in Sarasota, Florida.[109] In total, Team USA will have 12 boats, 42 athletes racing in the Olympic Games.[110] The full roster was announced on June 10, 2024.[111]

U.S. shooters have achieved quota places for the following events based on their results at the 2022 and 2023 ISSF World Championships, 2022 and 2024 Championships of the Americas, 2023 Pan American Games, and 2024 ISSF World Olympic Qualification Tournament.[121] The first five athletes were named in January 2024.[1][122] The U.S. shooting squad will be named based on the aggregate scores obtained by the shooters at two stages of the 2023–24 Olympic Trials (fall and spring).
The United States qualified twelve skateboarders (six per gender) to compete in each of the following events at the Games. The members will be decided in U.S skateboarding team.[129]
The U.S. has qualified eight climbers for the 2024 Summer Olympics.[1][116]Colin Duffy and Emma Hunt secured their spots in the men's combined and women's speed after winning silver medals at the 2023 World Championships in Bern, Switzerland; Piper Kelly, Samuel Watson, Natalia Grossman, and Jesse Grupper qualified for Paris in the women's speed, men's speed, women’s combined, and men's combined after winning gold medals at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile;[130] and Brooke Raboutou and Zach Hammer qualified for the games through the 2024 Olympic Qualifier Series ranking.
The U.S. has qualified five surfers (three female and two male) to the Olympic sailing competition in Tahiti.[1] The first quota was awarded for the victory in the women's team event at the 2022 ISA World Surfing Games in Huntington Beach, California, and the other three quotas were awarded after finishing among the top eight (women) and top ten (men) of those eligible for qualification in the 2023 World Surf League rankings.[131]
U.S. swimmers have achieved the entry standards in the following events for Paris 2024 (a maximum of two swimmers under the Olympic Qualifying Time (OST) and potentially the Olympic Consideration Time (OCT)):[136]
The United States has entered a full women's squad into the table tennis competition at the Games by virtue of the top two results in the women's team competition at the 2023 Pan American Table Tennis Championship in Havana, Cuba.[137] On March 1, 2024, Lily Zhang qualified for the Paris Olympics, becoming the first American player to claim their spot by name.[138] The remaining two team members were determined through the U.S. Olympic Trials held on March 21–24, 2024, in West Monroe, Louisiana,[139] with Amy Wang and Rachel Sung earning their spots to compete in Paris.[140]Kanak Jha joined the U.S. squad by virtue of securing one of four spots available for the men's singles competition via the 2024 Pan American Qualification Tournament in Lima, Peru.[141]
The main qualifying criterion will be the players' positions on the ATP and WTA ranking lists published on June 10, 2024. World No.2 Coco Gauff became the first U.S. tennis player to mathematically clinch a spot in the Olympic field, setting up her Olympic debut in Paris. She has accumulated enough points and guaranteed to be among the top four U.S. women's singles players at the end of the 12-month Olympic qualifying window.[143] She and Taylor Fritz will lead the U.S. tennis team at the 2024 Paris Olympics.[144][145]
The United States has confirmed five quota places (two men's and three women's) in the triathlon events for Paris.[146]
Morgan Pearson and Taylor Knibb qualified for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Triathlon Team at the 2023 World Triathlon Olympic Games Test Event in Paris.[147][148] Knibb also qualified in the sport of cycling, making her a rare dual-sport Olympian.[149] The team was announced on June 5, 2024.[150]
The United States has qualified five weightlifters into the Olympic competition. Hampton Morris (men's 61 kg), Wesley Kitts (men's 102 kg), Jourdan Delacruz (women's 49 kg), Olivia Reeves (women's 71 kg), and Mary Theisen-Lappen (women's +81 kg), secured one of the top ten slots, each in their respective weight division based on the IWF Olympic Qualification Rankings.[161]
