W sezonie 2000/2001 Roma pod wodzą Fabio Capello wywalczyła swoje trzecie w historii mistrzostwo i pierwsze od 1983 roku. Sezon zakończyła z 2 punktami przewagi nad Juventusem, a najlepszym strzelcem zespołu był nowy nabytek „giallorossich” Gabriel Batistuta. W Pucharze UEFA Roma odpadła w 1/8 finału po dwumeczu z Liverpoolem (0:2, 1:0).
