Angus (gael. Aonghas) – jednostka administracyjna (council area), a także historyczne hrabstwo, we wschodniej Szkocji, położona nad Morzem Północnym. Zajmuje powierzchnię 2182 km², a zamieszkana jest przez 116 200 osób (2011)[1]. Ośrodkiem administracyjnym jest miasto Forfar.
Historia
Nazwę Angus nosiła jedna z siedmiu prowincji lub hrabstw, na które podzielone zostało średniowieczne Królestwo Alby. Na przestrzeni wieków nazwa stosowana była wymiennie z Forfarshire dla hrabstwa, które istniało do 1975 roku[2]. Do lat 20. XX wieku Forfarshire było nazwą oficjalną[3]. W latach 1975–1996 nazwę Angus nosił jeden z trzech dystryktów regionu administracyjnego Tayside[4].
Współczesna jednostka administracyjna (council area) została utworzona w ramach reformy administracyjnej w 1996 roku[4]. Jej granice są niemal tożsame z hrabstwem historycznym, choć pod koniec XIX wieku wydzielono z niego miasto Dundee[3] (obecnie stanowiące odrębną jednostkę) oraz dokonano niewielkich korekt granicznych z sąsiednim hrabstwem Perthshire[2].
