Rodzaj Anthostoma utworzył Theodor Rudolph Joseph Nitschke w 1867 r. Gatunkiem typowym jest Anthostoma decipiens (DC.) Nitschke 1867[1]. Większość gatunków należących do tego rodzaju przeniesiona została do rodzajów Anthostomella, Clypeosphaeria, Euepixylon, Lopadostoma i Anthostomaria[1].
