Arielek[3] (Arielulus) – rodzaj ssaków z podrodziny mroczków (Vespertilioninae) w obrębie rodziny mroczkowatych (Vespertilionidae).

Rozmieszczenie geograficzne

Rodzaj obejmuje gatunki występujące w południowej i południowo-wschodniej Azji[4][5][6].

Morfologia

Długość ciała (bez ogona) 41–68 mm, długość ogona 33–58 mm, długość ucha 8,5–18 mm, długość tylnej stopy 7–12,2 mm, długość przedramienia 34,5–51,8 mm; masa ciała 4,3–19,5 g[5][7].

Systematyka

Rodzaj zdefiniowała w 1987 roku para brytyjskich zoologów John Edwards Hill i David Lakin Harrison w artykule zatytułowanym Baculum u Vespertilioninae (Chiroptera: Vespertilionidae) z przeglądem systematycznym, streszczeniem Pipistrellus i Eptesicus oraz opisem nowego rodzaju i podrodzaju, opublikowanym na łamach „Bulletin of the British Museum (Natural History)”[1]. Gatunkiem typowym jest (oryginalne oznaczenie) arielek pozłacany (A. circumdatus).

Etymologia

  • Arielulus: w średniowiecznym folklorze Ariel był duchem, elfem lub sylfem; łac. przyrostek zdrabniający -ulus[1].
  • Thainycteris: ang. ThailandTajlandia’; gr. νυκτερις nukteris, νυκτεριδος nukteridos ‘nietoperz’[2]. Gatunek typowy (oryginalne oznaczenie): Thainycteris aureocollaris Kock & Storch, 1996

Podział systematyczny

Opisany w 1987 jako podrodzaj w obrębie rodzaju Pipistrellus[1], a następnie przeniesiony do rodzaju Eptesicus[8]. Uznany za odrębny rodzaj w 1999 roku[9]. Do rodzaju należą następujące gatunki[10][7][4][3]:
