Barban – fitotoksyczny bojowy środek trujący, stosowany także jako herbicyd do ochrony zbóż[4].
Jest bezbarwnym, bezwonnym ciałem stałym o temperaturze topnienia ok. 76–77 °C[1].
Dawki rzędu 3 kg/ha niszczą uprawy (szczególnie warzywne) i pastwiska. Trwałość po wniknięciu w glebę: 2–3 miesiące[4].
Otrzymywanie
Barban można otrzymać z 3-chloroaniliny i 1,4-butynodiolu dwiema metodami z wykorzystaniem fosgenu i chlorku tionylu[5]:
