Takson utworzył Károly Kalchbrenner w 1867 r. Gatunkiem typowym jest Boletinus cavipes (Opat.) Kalchbr. 1867[1]. Nazwę polską podał Władysław Wojewoda w 2003 r. Synonimy polskie: borowik, borowiec[2].
