W 1898 r. Nils Gustaf Lagerheim utworzył podrodzaj Jola subgen. Cystobasidium. W 1924 r. Walther Neuhoff podniósł go do rangi rodzaju[1]. Gatunkiem typowym jest Cystobasidium lasioboli (Lagerh.) Neuhoff 1924[1].
