Rodzaj Dothiora utworzył Elias Fries w 1847 r. Gatunkiem typowym jest Dothiora pyrenophora (Fr.) Fr. 1849[1]. Synonimy: Dothiora subgen. Metadothis Sacc., Jaapia Kirschst., Keisslerina Petr., Leptodothiora Höhn., Metadothis (Sacc.) Sacc., Stigmea Bonord[2].
