Edward Shils

Edward Shils (ur. 1 lipca 1910, zm. 23 stycznia 1995) – amerykański socjolog. Pisał na temat społecznej roli intelektualistów, o polityce oraz teorii społeczeństwa. Był profesorem uniwersytetu w Chicago. Założył i wydawał kwartalnik "Minerva", poświęcony naukoznawstwu. Shils jest autorem pracy Tradition.

Był znany ze swoich badań nad rolą intelektualistów oraz ich relacjami z władzą i polityką publiczną. Jego praca została uhonorowana w 1983 roku, kiedy otrzymał Nagrodę Balzana. W 1979 roku został wybrany przez National Council on the Humanities do wygłoszenia Wykładu Jeffersona, najwyższego wyróżnienia przyznawanego przez rząd federalny USA za wybitne osiągnięcia intelektualne w dziedzinie nauk humanistycznych[1].
