Siedzibą władz gminy było miasto Hadsten.

Gmina Hadsten została utworzona 1 kwietnia 1970 na mocy reformy podziału administracyjnego Danii. Po kolejnej reformie administracyjnej w roku 2007 weszła w skład nowej gminy Favrskov.
