Długość ciała (bez ogona) 97–170 mm, długość ogona 74–131 mm, długość ucha 11–18 mm, długość tylnej stopy 20–28 mm; masa ciała 63–112 g[4][6].

Systematyka

Rodzaj zdefiniował w 1837 roku angielski zoolog John Edward Gray w artykule zatytułowanym Opisy niektórych nowych lub mało znanych ssaków, głównie ze zbiorów Muzeum Brytyjskiego, opublikowanym w czasopiśmie „The Magazine of natural history[1]. Gray wymienił trzy gatunki – Mus barbarus Linnaeus, 1767, Golunda Ellioti J.E. Gray, 1837 i Golunda Meltada J.E. Gray, 1837 – z których gatunkiem typowym jest (późniejsze oznaczenie) Golunda Ellioti J.E. Gray, 1837 (golunda dekańska).

Etymologia

Golunda: rodzima, indyjska (język konkani) nazwa gulandi dla golundy dekańskiej[7].

Podział systematyczny

Do rodzaju należy jeden występujący współcześnie gatunek[8][6][3][2]:
