Joseph White Farnham (ur. 2 grudnia 1884, zm. 2 czerwca 1931) – amerykański dramaturg, scenarzysta filmowy i montażysta filmowy epoki kina niemego w latach 20. XX w. Był także członkiem założycielem Amerykańskiej Akademii Sztuki i Wiedzy Filmowej[1].
Biografia
Urodzony w New Haven w stanie Connecticut w 1884 roku, Farnham rozpoczął karierę filmową dzięki relacjom biznesowym z impresario teatralnymi Gustavem i Danielem Frohmanami, właścicielami The Frohman Amusement Corp. „Wielka Parada” jest prawdopodobnie najsłynniejszym z jego dzieł zaadaptowanych na potrzeby filmu. Podczas pierwszej gali rozdania Oscarów w 1929 roku nominacje mogły być brane pod uwagę w przypadku kilku filmów w ciągu roku. Joseph zdobył nagrodę za najlepszy scenariusz – karty tytułowe za filmy „The Fair Co-Ed”, „Laugh, Clown, Laugh” i „Telling the World”[2]. Był to jedyny rok, w którym przyznawano Oscara za karty tytułowe.
Joseph Farnham był pierwszym zdobywcą Oscara, który zmarł. Umarł w 1931 roku na zawał serca, mieszkając w Los Angeles, i został pochowany na cmentarzu Forest Lawn Memorial Park w Glendale w Kalifornii.
