Jackman i Aaron Matthew Bauer w artykule poświęconym rewizji taksonomicznej gekonów zamieszkujących obszary wokół Oceanu Indyjskiego, opublikowanym na łamach „Systematics and Biodiversity”[1]. Gatunkiem typowym jest (oryginalne oznaczenie) Afrogecko plumicaudus.

Kolekanos: gr. κολεκανος kolekanos ‘chudy, szczupły’[1].
