Rząd Labyrinthulida utworzyli w 1989 r. Lindsay Shepherd Olive i Thomas Cavalier-Smith[1]. Według aktualizowanej klasyfikacji Species Fungorum rząd Labyrinthulidae to takson monotypowy z jedną tylko rodziną[2]:
