Zasięg występowania
Rodzaj obejmuje gatunki występujące w Meksyku, Belize, Gwatemali, Hondurasie, Salwadorze, Nikaragui, Kostaryce i Panamie[3][4].

Etymologia
Lepidophyma: λεπις lepis, λεπιδος lepidos „łuska, płytka”, od λεπω lepō „łuszczyć”; φυμα phuma, φυματος phumatos „guz, wrzód”[2].
