Maurice Chappaz (ur. 21 grudnia 1916 w Lozannie, zm. 15 stycznia 2009 w Martigny) – francuskojęzyczny pisarz szwajcarski.

Życiorys

Maurice Chappaz był synem Henriego Chappaz, prawnika i notariusza w Martigny, i Amélie z domu Troillet, bratanicy polityka Maurice'a Troillet(inne języki)[1]. Maturę uzyskał w kolegium w Saint-Maurice, po niej rozpoczął studia prawnicze w Lozannie, ale zrezygnował z nich po czterech semestrach, aby poświęcić się pisarstwu[1].

W czasie II wojny światowej został powołany do wojska, co wiązało się z podróżami po Szwajcarii. W 1944 roku opublikował pierwszą książkę Les Grandes Journées de printemps[2]".

Poza działalnością literacką zatrudnił się jako zarządca winnicy w Fully, należącej do jego wuja. Był też asystentem geodety podczas budowy zapory Grande Dixence[1], związane z tym doświadczenia wykorzystał w wydanej w 1965 roku książce Chant de la Grande Dixence[2].

Odbył liczne podróże, m.in. do Chin i Tybetu, Libanu, na Spitsbergen, do Stanów Zjednoczonych i Kanady, publikując z nich korespondencje[1]. Wydawał poezję, wiersze prozą, utwory satyryczne i liczne artykuły prasowe[2].

W 1997 roku został uhonorowany nagrodą Grosser Schillerpreis[1].

Życie prywatne

W 1947 roku ożenił się z pisarką S. Corinną Bille, byli małżeństwem do jej śmierci w 1979 roku. Maurice Choppaz ożenił się po raz drugi, z Michène Caussignac, wdową po pisarzu Lorenzo Pestellim(inne języki)[1].
