Taksonomia
Rodzajem typowym jest rodzaj Mesoptilius[1].
Zasięg występowania
Przedstawiciele podrodziny żyją na całym świecie, z bardzo licznymi gatunkami na terenie dawnej Gondwany[2].
W Polsce stwierdzono 17 gatunków, wszystkie należą do rodzaju Magdalis[3].
