Neptunea – jeden z rodzajów morskich ślimaków z rodziny Buccinidae. Jego przedstawiciele są szeroko rozpowszechnieni w morzach stref umiarkowanego i chłodnego klimatu. Niektóre gatunki są wykorzystywane gospodarczo.
Cechy morfologiczne
Muszle o różnej wielkości, od małych po średniej wielkości, mają kształt wrzecionowaty, są, w przypadku większości gatunków, prawoskrętne. Skrętka wzniesiona, w porównaniu do innych przedstawicieli rodziny o długości umiarkowanej lub skróconej w stosunku do szerokości. Powierzchnia muszli jest zwykle pokryta poprzecznymi i spiralnymi żebrami[2]. Ślimaki zaopatrzone w wieczko.
Występowanie
Przedstawiciele rodziny są szeroko rozprzestrzenione w litoralu mórz strefy umiarkowanej i chłodnej na półkuli północnej: Północnym Pacyfiku, Oceanie Arktycznym, Północnym Atlantyku, Morzu Północnym, Morzu Śródziemnym[2].
Wykorzystanie
Wiele gatunków jest poławianych w celach konsumpcyjnych[2]. Nazwę rodzaju wykorzystało Belgijskie Towarzystwo Konchiologiczne jako nazwę wydawanego przez tę instytucję periodyku przeznaczonego dla osób amatorsko i profesjonalnie zajmujących się malakologią[3].
