Nazwa rodzajowa oznacza "dawną antylopę".
Opis
Przypominało duże, prymitywne okapi leśne.

- P. primaevus – gatunek starszy, z wczesnego miocenu, nie posiadało rożków na głowie
- P. germaini – gatunek młodszy, z późnego miocenu, posiadało parę rożków na głowie, wyglądało jak okapi o wzroście 3m
