Protorthemis – rodzaj ważek z rodziny ważkowatych (Libellulidae)[1].

Rozmieszczenie geograficzne

Do rodzaju należą gatunki występujące w Indonezji (na zachód po Celebes), Papui-Nowej Gwinei, na Wyspach Salomona oraz Filipinach (Palawan)[4].

Systematyka

Rodzaj ten wprowadził w 1889 roku angielski entomolog William Forsell Kirby[2][3]. Do rodzaju zaliczył trzy gatunki: nowo przez siebie opisany Protorthemis celebensis (wyznaczając go na gatunek typowy) oraz Orthemis coronata i Orthemis metallica[2] (obecna jego nazwa to Cratilla metallica[1]). Obecnie do rodzaju zaliczane są cztery gatunki[1].

Etymologia

Protorthemis: gr. πρωτο- proto- „główny, czołowy, pierwszy”[5][6]; gr. ὁρθός orthos „prosty”[5][7]; gr. θέμις themis „prawo zwyczajowe”[5], Thémis (pol. Temida[8]) – w mitologii greckiej bogini sprawiedliwości i prawa; przyrostek -⁠themis dla nazw rodzajowych ważek wprowadził w 1861 roku Hermann August Hagen; używał on tego przyrostka wyłącznie dla ważkowatych, ale później inni autorzy wykorzystywali go do tworzenia nazw rodzajów także z rodzin Corduliidae i Synthemistidae[1][5][9].
