- Pseudobranchus: gr. ψευδος pseudos „fałszywy”; βραγχος branchos „skrzela”[5].
- Parvibranchus: łac. parvus „mały”[6]; gr. βραγχος branchos „skrzela”. Nazwa zastępcza dla Pseudobranchus[4].
