Roger Nellens

Roger Nellens (ur. 11 maja 1937 r. w Liège, zm. 30 października 2021 r. w Knokke-Heist) – był cenionym belgijskim malarzem samoukiem, kolekcjonerem sztuki oraz mecenasem kultury. Zasłynął przede wszystkim jako twórca surrealistycznych obrazów przedstawiających tzw. „maszyny wyobrażone” (fr. machines imaginaires).

Twórczość

Pochodził ze znanej belgijskiej rodziny Nellens, która przez dekady kształtowała życie kulturalne kurortu Knokke-Heist (prowadząc m.in. słynne kasyno i hotel La Réserve)[1]. W początkowym okresie tworzył pod wpływem Paula Delvaux, malując pociągi i semafory. Od 1969 roku zaczął rozwijać swój unikalny styl oparty na geometrycznych, poetyckich i pozbawionych agresji maszynach, które badały relację między technologią a naturą[2][3].

Roger odegrał kluczową rolę w sprowadzeniu do Knokke wybitnych artystów międzynarodowych, w tym Keitha Haringa czy Niki de Saint Phalle. Jego prace znajdują się w kolekcjach prestiżowych instytucji, takich jak Tate[4] w Londynie czy Centre Pompidou w Paryżu[5].
