Southampton Chess Club – angielski klub szachowy z siedzibą w Southampton.

Historia

Klub został założony w 1883 roku, spotkanie założycielskie odbyło się 30 stycznia w Semidini's Restaurant. Pierwotnie klub liczył 58 członków. W latach 80. XIX wieku gościnnych pokazów w klubie udzielali Johannes Zukertort i Joseph Blackburne, ponadto klub rozgrywał mecze towarzyskie m.in. z Bournemouth Chess Club, Portsmouth Chess Club, Brighton Chess Club, Chichester Chess Club, Salisbury Chess Club i Oxford University Chess Club[1.1]. W 1897 roku po raz pierwszy zespół wygrał Hampshire Chess Association Club Challenge Trophy, później zdobywał to trofeum jeszcze kilkanaście razy[1.2]. W 1921 roku klub zorganizował pierwsze wewnątrzklubowe mistrzostwa, które wygrał F.J.H. Elwell[2], a rok później był współzałożycielem Southampton Chess League[1.3]. W okresie II wojny światowej Southampton Chess Club nie prowadził działalności, został reaktywowany w październiku 1945 roku[1.4]. W 1951 roku zespół dotarł do półfinału strefowego National Club Championships[1.2]. W 1981 roku klub grał w piątej rundzie (1/8 finału) mistrzostw kraju, pokonując wcześniej 3½:2½ Brighton Chess Club z Raymondem Keenem w składzie[1.5].
