Szablon wstawia łącze zewnętrzne do bazy obiektów astronomicznych SIMBAD. Użycie:

{{simbad|id}}

lub

{{simbad|id|opis}}

gdzie id jest identyfikatorem obiektu w bazie SIMBAD, zaś opis (opcjonalny; domyślnie taki, jak nazwa strony) jest tekstem, jaki ma być wstawiony jako link. Przykłady użycia:

  • {{simbad|Rigel}} (wstawiony na stronie Rigel) daje: Rigel w bazie SIMBAD (ang.)
  • {{simbad|Rigel|Rigel}} (gdziekolwiek) daje: Rigel w bazie SIMBAD (ang.)
  • {{simbad|Eta Tauri|Alkione}} daje: Alkione w bazie SIMBAD (ang.)
