Talassokracja

Talassokracja (stgr. θαλασσοκρατία – „panowanie na morzu”[1], od θάλασσα „morze” + κράτος „władza, moc”) – mocarstwo, które zdobywa i utrzymuje dominację za pomocą silnej floty. Cała potęga i polityczne znaczenie danej talassokracji dobiega końca w wypadku anihilacji sił morskich[2].

Termin ten odnosi się także do dominacji morskiej, zarówno w jej militarnym, jak i gospodarczym znaczeniu.

Przykładami historycznie istniejących talassokracji są: Kreta w epoce brązu (kultura minojska)[3], starożytne Ateny i Ateński Związek Morski[4], czy brytyjskie imperium kolonialne.
