TechRepublic został założony w 1997 roku w Louisville w stanie Kentucky przez Toma Cottinghama i Kim Spaulding[1]. Witrynę internetową uruchomiono w 1999 roku[2]. W 2001 r. serwis został zakupiony przez CNET Networks.

Według danych SimilarWeb w 2020 roku serwis miał ponad 6 mln wizyt miesięcznie[3].
