Allolepis adalah genus tumbuhan Amerika Utara dalam suku rumput-rumputan.[2][3][4][5] Satu-satunya spesies yang diketahui adalah Allolepis texana (Texas false saltgrass).

Allolepis texana mirip dengan spesies Distichlis. Tumbuhan ini merupakan herba tahunan dioecious (berumah dua) yang berkembang biak menggunakan stolon yang menjalar di sepanjang permukaan tanah. Batangnya glabrous (gundul), dengan tinggi mencapai 70 cm (28 in). Helaian daunnya berbentuk pipih atau agak terlipat, dengan panjang mencapai 43 cm (17 in) dan lebar 6 mm (1⁄4 in). Perbungaannya berupa malai rapat dengan panjang hingga 6 cm (2+1⁄2 in) yang memiliki 5–70 spikelet. Tanaman staminate (jantan) memiliki hingga 20 bunga per spikelet, sedangkan tanaman pistillate (betina) hanya 5–9.[6]

Semua populasi yang diketahui di AS adalah staminate (jantan), tidak memiliki bunga betina, dan berkembang biak secara vegetatif.

Distribusi dan habitat

Spesies ini merupakan tanaman asli Texas barat dan Meksiko utara (Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Tamaulipas).[1][7][8][9][10]

Tumbuhan ini tumbuh di tanah berpasir dan berlumpur di dasar sungai dan dataran banjir.[10]
