Asellus aquaticus adalah sebuah spesies krustasea isopoda air tawar yang menyerupai dan berkerabat dengan kutu kayu.

Deskripsi

Asellus aquaticus dibedakan dari sejenis asselid lainnya yang simpatrik dan tampak mirip, Proasellus meridianus, dengan hadirnya dua titik putih di bekalang kepalanya,[1] alih-alih satu bercak putih tunggal berkelanjutan di belakang kepala seperti yang ada pada P. meridianus.[2] Spesies ini juga dicirikan dengan ukuran tubuh yang lebih besar, hingga panjang 2 sentimeter (0,79 in), alih-alih hingga sekitar 8–10 milimeter (0,31–0,39 in) pada spesies Proasellus,[3] meski banyak spesimen A. aquaticus dewasa berukuran setenga atau kurang dari panjang tersebut.[4] Jantan pada spesies ini cenderung lebih besar dari betina, dan spesies ini secara keseluruhan barangkali berukuran lebih kecil pada perairan yang lebih tercemar dan di iklim yang lebih hangat.[5]
