Assam Rifles adalah pasukan paramiliter tertua di India, yang telah ada sejak 1835 di bawah kekuasaan British Raj, dengan nama Cachar Levy. Nama saat ini "Assam Rifles" dipakai sejak 1917.[1] Sepanjang sejarahnya, Assam Rifles bertugas dalam sejumlah peran, konflik dan palagan yang meliputi Perang Dunia I, di mana mereka bertugas di Eropa dan Timur Tengah, dan Perang Dunia II, di mana mereka utamanya bertugas di Burma.
