Barnadesia adalah genus tumbuhan berbunga dalam keluarga bunga matahari, Asteraceae.[2][3] Genus ini berasal dari Amerika Selatan, di mana mereka tersebar dari Kolombia hingga utara Argentina, dengan sebagian besar spesies ditemukan di Andes.[4] Nama umum untuk tanaman ini termasuk clavelillo, chivo caspi, espino de gato, dan espino santo.[4]
Tanaman ini sebagian besar berupa perdu dan pohon kecil,[5] yang terbesar dapat melebihi empat meter tingginya.[6] Batangnya berduri. Kepala bunga (pseudanthium) berisi floret berwarna merah muda, merah, atau ungu, termasuk 8 hingga 13 floret tepi yang berambut dan biasanya satu atau tiga floret cakram. Floret tepi menghasilkan buah dengan pappus berbentuk bulu, dan buah dari floret cakram memiliki "pappus yang lebih seperti bulu sikat dan berbelit".[5]
