Dioon merolae adalah spesies sikas yang berasal dari Chiapas dan Oaxaca, Meksiko.[2] Tumbuhan ini ditemukan di munisipalitas Cintalapa dan Villaflores di Chiapas, serta dari Sierra Juárez, Oaxaca.[1]

Kumbang Pharaxonotha occidentalis berada dalam hubungan mutualistik obligat dengan Dioon merolae, hidup dan berkembang biak di dalam runjung jantan serta mengonsumsi serbuk sari dan jaringan runjung, sekaligus berfungsi sebagai vektor penyerbukan dengan membawa serbuk sari ke runjung betina.[3]
