Fothergilla latifolia, yang dikenal sebagai large witch alder atau mountain witch alder,[3] adalah spesies tumbuhan berbunga dalam genus Fothergilla, famili Hamamelidaceae, yang merupakan tumbuhan asli di hutan dan rawa-rawa di Pegunungan Allegheny dan bagian selatan Pegunungan Appalachia di Amerika Serikat bagian tenggara.[4] Tumbuhan ini adalah semak peluruh yang tumbuh hingga 25 m (82 ft) dengan bunga harum berwarna putih berbentuk sikat botol yang muncul bersamaan dengan, atau sebelum, daunnya yang mengilap. Daunnya sering kali berubah warna menjadi merah dan oranye cerah di musim gugur.[5]

Fothergilla latifolia menyukai sinar matahari penuh hingga naungan parsial serta tahan terhadap penyakit dan serangga.[6] Tumbuhan ini tumbuh subur di tanah yang lembap dan asam, namun cukup toleran terhadap kekeringan.[4] Tumbuhan ini memiliki ketahanan di zona ketahanan USDA 4–8.[7]

Genus ini dinamai menurut nama dokter dan kolektor tanaman asal Inggris, John Fothergill (1712-1780). Epitet spesifik bahasa Latin untuk sinonim major berarti "lebih besar".[8] Tanaman ini telah mendapatkan Award of Garden Merit dari Royal Horticultural Society.[9][10]
