Glikan

Persatuan Kimia Murni dan Terapan Internasional (IUPAC) mendefinisikan glikan sebagai "sinonim dengan polisakarida yang berarti senyawa yang terdiri dari sekelompok monosakarida yang terhubung satu sama lain melalui ikatan glikosidik.[1] Namun, dalam praktiknya, istilah glikan juga dapat digunakan untuk merujuk pada bagian karbohidrat dari glikokonjugat, seperti glikoprotein, glikolipid, atau proteoglikan, bahkan jika karbohidrat tersebut hanya berupa oligosakarida.[2] Glikan memiliki beberapa fungsi penting sebagai struktur, penyimpanan energi, dan pengaturan sistem tubuh makhluk hidup.[3]
